The Greater Ocean

The Greater Ocean is a massive layer that ebbs and flows between different layers, connecting to different places at different points. It consists of the Surface, a sublayer also referred to as the Astral Sea, which is a fairly calm expanse of waves with a number of ships often travelling the surface. The Astral Sea is almost always lit up like sunset, appearing in hues of orange and pink.

Beneath the surface, the Greater Ocean is a vast expanse of water with a great deal of variety, from reefs to shipwrecks to deep, vast caverns. A great number of strange beings reside in this layer, swimming through and negotiating in ways others might not understand. There are few proper structures in this layer, with most folks simply content to spend their time travelling the Ocean constantly. The few structures that do exist tend to be meeting places, or structures where those not native to the ocean can live if they choose to visit.

Function

The Greater Ocean is a place of passing through, where things are all liminal to those who don't stay there. Very few folks who were not born of and in the ocean choose to stay there. For those who live in the Ocean, they do a great deal of grief processing; the idea of "swimming through life without paying attention" seems to be quite near the heart of this layer.
